29th January 2026 Titan Mining restarts U.S. natural graphite production for the first time in 70+ years
Titan Mining Corporation has informed that it reached a milestone that hasn’t been seen in the United States for over 70 years. At its Kilbourne demonstration facility in upstate New York, Titan Mining Corporation has officially commenced production of natural flake graphite concentrate, marking the first tangible step toward restoring a domestic natural graphite supply chain in the U.S.
This initial production phase moves Titan beyond proof of concept and into customer and government qualification programs, laying the groundwork for commercial-scale supply of a material that is essential for defense, industrial manufacturing, and energy-transition technologies.
Improving domestic CM value chains
Importantly, this achievement aligns directly with recent U.S. federal policy actions, including the new White House Executive Order applying Section 232 authorities to processed critical minerals such as natural graphite. The order explicitly acknowledges a key reality: mining alone is not enough processing capacity matters when supply chains are concentrated offshore.
“With Kilbourne now producing, Titan is aligned with the federal government’s clear policy direction: rebuilding secure, end-to-end U.S. supply chains for critical minerals” said Rita Adiani, President and Chief Executive Officer of Titan Mining. She has added that: “The combination of first domestic production and decisive trade and industrial policy action materially de-risks the path to commercial scale.”
Big plans
From an operational standpoint, the Kilbourne graphite demonstration facility, integrated within Titan’s existing Empire State Mine infrastructure is designed to produce approximetly 1,200 tonnes per year of graphite concentrate. This provides a critical bridge toward the Company’s targeted 40,000 tonne per year commercial production profile, which could ultimately supply a substantial share of current U.S. natural graphite demand.
Next move
On the financing front, Titan continues advanced discussions with the Export-Import Bank of the United States, following the previously announced US$120 million non-dilutive loan facility letter of interest, alongside engagement with other federal agencies on complementary funding solutions.
As Section 232 trade measures and industrial policy tools are implemented, domestically produced and processed natural graphite is expected to play an increasingly strategic role in strengthening U.S. industrial resilience and supply-chain security.
