From transformation to trust, Mark Cutifani takes the stage at WMC 2026

The World Mining Congress 2026 Program Committee has confirmed that Mark Cutifani will deliver a plenary address at WMC 2026, taking place June 24–26 in Lima.

With nearly five decades of experience across six continents, 20 countries, and more than 30 minerals and metals, Cutifani remains one of the most influential voices shaping the global mining sector. His participation comes at a pivotal moment,when the industry must accelerate responsible critical mineral supply, rebuild social trust, and drive transformation across the entire mining value chain.

As CEO of Anglo American (2013-2022), Cutifani led one of the most significant restructurings in modern mining history. Under his leadership, the company:

• Delivered an average annual shareholder return of 22%
• Doubled productivity
• Reduced real unit costs by 40%
• Strengthened sustainability and innovation performance

Transformational leadership

Earlier, as CEO oF AngloGold Ashanti and in executive roles at Vale and Rio Tinto, he navigated complex operational and geopolitical landscapes, reinforcing his reputation for transformational leadership.

Beyond corporate leadership, Cutifani has shaped global mining governance as Chair of the ICMM (International Council on Mining and Metals) and President of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa (Minerals Council South Africa). In 2024, he was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) by the UK government in recognition of his contributions to international mining investment.
