28th October 2026 Nova Minerals secures final Alaska antimony permits
Nova Minerals Corp.) has announced in its press release that it has secured final approvals from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources for its Alaska Antimony Project, advancing its plans to begin production in 2027.
The approvals cover the project’s Plan of Operations and Reclamation Plan, marking a transition from development planning toward construction and implementation. According to Nova, the permitting process was completed approximately three months after submission.
From stibnite mining to refined antimony
Nova is developing an integrated production pathway connecting mineral extraction, concentration and downstream refining within Alaska. The proposed operation begins with stibnite mining at the Styx and Stibium prospects, followed by ore sorting and processing at the Whiskey Bravo concentration site within the Estelle Project. Final processing and refining are planned at Port MacKenzie.
The initial approvals cover a three-year operating period. Metallurgical test work and process engineering have established a flowsheet designed to produce military-grade antimony trisulfide alongside standard Grade II antimony metal containing more than 99.65% Sb.
Us$43.4 million in federal funding supports development
Phase 1 is supported by a US$43.4 million award from the US Department of War, reflecting the strategic importance of antimony to American defence supply chains.
Nova reports that major long-lead mining and processing equipment has already been procured and delivered to project locations, while engineering and metallurgical work have been completed.
Christopher Gerteisen, CEO of Nova Minerals, stated: “With these key milestones achieved, our focus is now on execution.” The company is now concentrating on construction and project delivery, with initial production targeted for 2027.
From critical mineral strategy to industrial reality
Antimony’s importance extends beyond its geological availability. Establishing reliable domestic production requires an operational chain linking mining, mineral processing, refining and the manufacture of materials suitable for industrial and defence applications.
Nova’s Alaska project seeks to address several of these stages within a single development programme. However, 2027 remains a production target rather than an achieved milestone, and successful commissioning, metallurgical performance and operational execution will determine whether the project delivers its intended contribution.
