Peru’s Mining Sector Shows Strong Growth
The Minister of Energy and Mines, Jorge Montero, announced that gold production grew by 10.4% in June, reflecting the government’s policy of combating illegal mining.
“The increase in legal gold production by more than 10% in the month of June clearly responds to this government’s policy of combating illegal mining. By combating illegal mining, we are allowing formal companies to operate peacefully, without difficulties, and within an appropriate production framework,” he highlighted.
Solid growth
In the first half of 2025, key minerals also registered solid growth: Copper: +3.6%, Zinc: +13.6%, Silver: +9.3%, Lead: +7.8%
Proposals
The Ministry presented 11 proposals for a new law on small-scale and artisanal mining, including: a simplified tax regime, clearer rules for permits, a Mining Fund to support sustainability, technical assistance, and commercialization
Minister Montero reaffirmed: “One of this government’s goals is to improve working conditions and environmental protection in small-scale and artisanal mining operations. This includes labor rights, occupational health and safety, and environmental protection
