Chile the main April platform for discussion about mining

5th April 2024 Chile the main April platform for discussion about mining

105th IOC meeting

Mining has always been an essential part of human civilization, providing the raw materials that fuel progress and development. However, the world we operate in today is fraught with uncertainties such as geopolitical tensions, economic fluctuations, environmental concerns, technological disruptions, and now, the unprecedented challenges posed by global pandemics.

These challenges are also the drivers for the mining industry for innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth. We must confront these challenges head-on, embracing change as an opportunity to redefine the future of mining. In April a platform for the discussion is Chile where both the 105th IOC meeting and CESCO will take place. During the IOC event, a high-level discussion related to challenges and perspectives of world mining in times of uncertainty will take place.

105th IOC Keynote speakers

  • European Coal Outlook by Vladimir Budinsky from EURACOAL,
  • Lithium Project Atacama Desert by Rodrigo Dupuoy from Sorcia Minerals,
  • Global Graphite resources a reason to worry? by Leopold Weber,
  • Anglo American: Transforming the Way of Mining – “Los Bronces” new stage: LB by Patricio Hidalgo from Anglo American,

  • Underground Mine Chuquicamata Project,
  • Slope stability engineering in open-pit mines by WMC chairman Marek Cała from AGH University of Krakow,

CESCO week

Independently almost at the same time the CRU Conferences and CESCO will take place. Those two events are a unique opportunity to exchange experiences and meet with the highest authorities and global leaders of copper mining.

CESCO Speakers

This year’s confirmed most important keynote speakers are among others: Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, the Executive Director of the Environmental Assessment Service, Valentina Durán Medina, and CEO of Aurubis Roland Harings. The workshop speakers will be: Jorge Saenz-Diez from Glencore (Sulphides leaching), Dr. Jackie Scales from Teck Resources Limited and Hernán Araneda from Fundación Chile (Mining employment and talent challenges), Clarissa Campos from Fleet Space Technologies and César Garrido Quintana from Siderúrgica Huachipato (Leveraging Copper Discoveries in the Energy Transition), Bold Baatar from Rio Tinto, Ruben Alvarado from CODELCO – Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile, Simon Collins from South32, Brandon Craig from BHP Americas and Jonathan Price from Teck Resources Limited (Integrating Sustainability), Ailie MacAdam from Bechtel (Integrating technological, innovation and project delivery pathways), Hillary W.
