7th August 2024 Cooper 360 reopens Rietberg copper mine
Restart
Copper 360 has officially commenced underground mining at the Rietberg copper mine, marking the first primary production from the Okiep Copper District in over 40 years!
Jan Nelson said: „The commencement of mining activity at Rietberg is an exciting moment for us and the culmination of several years of planning; but inasmuch as it marks a milestone for Copper 360, it also signals the beginnings of a new era for the Northern Cape.”
Production boost
The Rietberg mine will boost Copper 360’s production by adding copper concentrate to the plate products from surface material re-mining. The company anticipates that primary mining will account for 80% of our future earnings.
Targets
Copper 360 is targeting a monthly production of 45,000 tons after expanding its operations, starting with 12,000 tons monthly. Plant recoveries are expected to range from 75% to 85%, with the potential for even higher efficiency based on test work.
Rietberg mine
The reopening of the Rietberg mine, previously operated by Newmont Corporation and South Africa’s Gold Fields until its closure in 1983, is a significant step in revitalizing copper mining in the Okiep Copper District.
Copper 360 is committed to continuing the development of this area through our ‘Cluster Mining Model.’ Mining rights cover 19,000 hectares with 12 mines and 60 historical prospects identified.
