Gold Fields applies groundbreaking technology of the Fleet Space Technologies

4th October 2024 Gold Fields applies groundbreaking technology of the Fleet Space Technologies

Space technology

Fleet Space Technologies has informed about deploying its cutting-edge mineral exploration solution, ExoSphere that will support Gold Fields’ data-driven exploration at the Salares Norte project in Northern Chile. ExoSphere will deliver 3D subsurface imaging of the Brecha Principal and Agua Amarga resource areas, driving new insights and identifying potential exploration targets.

Flavia Tata Nardini, Co-Founder & CEO of Fleet Space Technologies has expressed: „Fleet Space and Gold Fields share a vision of leveraging advanced satellite connectivity, 3D multiphysics, and AI to revolutionize exploration and achieve sustainable outcomes at scale”.

Past experience

This partnership builds on the success of ExoSphere at Gold Fields’ St. Ives operation in Australia, where smart seismic sensors (Geodes) demonstrated the power of low-impact, real-time subsurface imaging. With near-zero environmental footprint and rapid data processing, ExoSphere is the next step in driving innovation and sustainability in mineral exploration, even in challenging terrains like the Maricunga Belt in Chile.

Keypoints

The solution will provide key information on: 3D mapping of mineral systems in real-time, AI-powered targeting recommendations for low environmental impact, even in remote and high-altitude zones.

Groundbreaking

ExoSphere’s groundbreaking impact was recently recognized at the 2024 Banksia Foundation’s National Sustainability Awards, winning the Climate Technology Impact Award. This success, combined with $50 Australia million Series C raise, has propelled Fleet Space into a new era of growth, solidifying our position as Australia’s fastest-growing company.

Salares Norte

Salares Norte open-pit mine, located high in the Andes on Chile’s Maricunga Belt. Sitting at altitudes between 3,900–4,700 meters, this site presents unique challenges, including remote access, rugged terrain, and harsh seasonal conditions. To overcome these obstacles, Gold Fields has employed cutting-edge technologies and innovative strategies to optimize exploration while minimizing environmental impact. These advancements are crucial for driving sustainable mining in such a challenging environment, ensuring that operations at Salares Norte continue to thrive.
