23rd August 2024 One step closer to space mining?
Asteroid mining
AstroForge has made a press release where they share a major milestone about mining asteroids. This US-based startup from day one has a clear mission: to create a cost-effective, sustainable mining solution that replenishes Earth’s resources while safeguarding our planet’s future.
Funding
Over the past few years, AstroForge has made significant strides. It launched its first mission in April 2023, and its second mission, Odin, is set to be launched into deep space later this year. In its press release, AstroForge announced a $40M Series A funding round led by Nova Threshold, with participation from 776, Initialized Capital, Caladan, YC, Uncorrelated Ventures, and Jed McCaleb. This brings AstroForge’s total funding to $55M, empowering to continue reshaping the future of space exploration.
Vestri mission
According to AstroForg Mission 3: Vestri is set to launch in 2025. The 200kg AstroForge production vehicle, Vestri, will return to target Near Earth Asteroid, docking with the body in space to analyze and characterize its valuable elements. Developed entirely in-house, this mission marks a significant step toward our vision of making off-world resources accessible to all humankind. If successful, it will be the first private mission to land on another celestial body outside the Earth-Moon system—a groundbreaking achievement in the future of space mining.
