3rd August 2026 SAGA Metals and Temas advance North American vanadium processing
As governments and manufacturers race to secure resilient critical mineral supply chains, exploration success alone is no longer enough. The ability to efficiently process strategic metals is becoming just as important as finding them.
That is why the latest metallurgical results announced by SAGA Metals and Temas Resources represent more than another laboratory milestone. They provide an early indication that the Radar Titanium–Vanadium–Iron Project in Labrador could possess the metallurgical characteristics needed to support future downstream development.
The companies reported vanadium recoveries of up to 97.4%, titanium recoveries of up to 90.8%, and iron recoveries of up to 91.5% during metallurgical scoping tests using Temas’ proprietary Regenerative Chloride Leach (RCL) technology.
Why metallurgy can change project economics
High recoveries have the potential to improve project economics by maximizing metal extraction while reducing waste streams and improving overall resource utilization. For polymetallic titanium-vanadium-iron deposits, this becomes particularly important because value is created from several critical commodities rather than a single metal.
According to the companies, the ilmenite concentrate delivered the strongest titanium performance, achieving 90.8% titanium extraction, while maintaining exceptionally high recoveries for vanadium and iron.
Building a North American critical minerals supply chain
Titanium and vanadium are increasingly viewed as strategic minerals for aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing and energy storage applications. As governments seek to reduce dependence on overseas supply chains, projects capable of producing these materials, and processing them domestically, are attracting growing attention.
Earlier exploration results from the Radar Project demonstrated grades and mineralization characteristics comparable to internationally recognized vanadiferous titanomagnetite systems. The latest metallurgical work now begins to answer another critical question: how efficiently those minerals can be recovered.
From laboratory to pilot plant
Rather than treating these results as an endpoint, SAGA Metals and Temas Resources are positioning them as the foundation for the next stage of technical development.
The companies announced that the successful scoping program establishes a pathway toward pilot-plant testing, an important step in validating the process under larger-scale operating conditions before future engineering studies.
Pilot-scale validation is often where promising laboratory concepts are tested against operational realities, providing valuable information for future feasibility work, capital planning and commercial evaluation.
A strong signal for critical minerals development
As demand for critical minerals accelerates, investors are increasingly evaluating projects through two lenses: resource quality and processing capability.
The latest metallurgical program suggests that the Radar Project is progressing on both fronts. While further testing, engineering and economic studies remain ahead, recoveries approaching commercial benchmarks provide encouraging evidence that the project’s titanium, vanadium and iron mineralization may be supported by an effective extraction pathway.
