Strategic Acquisition in the Uranium Sector

27th June 2024 Strategic Acquisition in the Uranium Sector

$833 million deal

Paladin Energy has made a press release where it informs that it has entered into a definitive arrangement agreement that is worth $833 million. Under this agreement, Paladin will acquire 100% shares of Fission Uranium Corp through a court-approved plan of arrangement under the Canada Business Corporation Act.

The acquisition will give Paladin operational control of western Canada’s Athabasca Basin. The region is known for its high-grade uranium deposits. The transaction is expected to close in September 2024 quarter, however the Fission’s flagship asset, is expected to commence operations in 2029. Estimated production is approximately 9.1 million pounds of uranium over the next decade.

Gobal company

Ian Purdy has expressed that this acquisition is a huge milestone for Paladin Energy. He spoke: “This acquisition is a strategic step in diversifying and growing Paladin into a global uranium leader. Fission’s PLS project is a natural fit, creating a leading Canadian development hub alongside our Michelin project. The combined company will have one of the largest Mineral Resources among pure-play uranium companies globally.”

Ross McElroy has highlighted that this deal will create a globally significant uranium company. He explicitly: “The combination of Fission and Paladin creates a world-class uranium producer. Shareholders will benefit from a diverse asset portfolio, exposure to producing and development-stage projects, and reduced financing risk for PLS.”

Strategic acquisition

As was mentioned this transaction is targeted to close in the September 2024 quarter, subject to all necessary conditions. Together, Paladin and Fission are set to create a globally significant uranium company with a robust portfolio of exploration, development, and production assets. This acquisition combined with the information provided by World Nuclear News about AtkinsRéalis project on the construction of a four-unit Candu Monark plant will definitely influence the Canadian GDP.
