25th October 2022 Sun already shining on WMC 2023 in Brisbane

The sun is already shining in Brisbane in anticipation of the 26th World Mining Congress (WMC 2023) next June with the launch of the Preliminary Program that includes a who’s who of the global mining sector.

Hosted by Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), the WMC 2023 theme is Resourcing Tomorrow: Creating Value for Society.

Plenary speakers confirmed include Australia’s Chief Scientist, Cathy Foley; BHP CEO and Director, Mike Henry; Rio Tinto Chief Executive Jakob Stausholm; and Chief Executive of Anglo American, Duncan Wanblad.

WMC 2023 Congress Chair, Hua Guo, says a major milestone in preparation for the Congress has now been achieved with publication of the first stage of the Preliminary Program, following over 1000 abstract submissions worldwide.  The WMC 2023 Program will feature 500 international speakers, providing in-depth panel discussions and exciting special symposia alongside 200 exhibitors and industry professionals.

WMC 2023 includes 12 streams focused on AI, Autonomous Systems, Critical Minerals, Decarbonisation, Environmental Sustainability, Future Workforce & Education, Geoscience & Discovery, Health, Safety & Wellbeing, Mining Science & Engineering, New Mining Frontiers, Processing & Refining, and Social Performance & Governance.

This global premier mining event will be held from 26-29 June at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre at South Bank which also doubles as the city’s entertainment, lifestyle and recreational precinct.

South Bank is home to dozens of accommodation options in varying price points, an exciting array of award-winning restaurants, walking and cycling tracks, and of course, Streets Beach – a man-made beach overlooking the Brisbane River and the CBD.
