Ukraine announces 50-year lithium mining tender

2nd September 2025 Ukraine announces 50-year lithium mining tender

Reuters has informed that Ukraine has taken a significant step forward in strengthening its strategic economic partnership with the United States.

As Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced, “Ukraine has launched a tender for the right to mine a lithium deposit site in its central Kirovohrad region.” This initiative marks the beginning of a broader collaboration under the U.S.-Ukraine joint investment fund, established in April.

Dobra site

The first project under this fund will focus on the “Dobra” site, which holds substantial reserves of lithium, a resource increasingly vital for energy storage and advanced technologies. As Prime Minister Svyrydenko emphasized, “The site contains significant reserves of lithium, which is of strategic importance for energy and technology. We are looking for an investor who will ensure not only extraction, but also the development of value-added production in Ukraine.”

50 year agreement

The Ukrainian government has laid out a clear process: an official announcement will be published within the next two months, followed by a three-month window for submitting bids, after which a winner will be selected. According to the Ministry of Economy, the successful bidder will enter into a 50-year agreement, committing to a minimum investment of $179 million. This figure covers geological exploration, the launch of production and enrichment, and crucially aligns with broader development goals.

As the ministry noted, “This amount includes both funding for geological exploration and the launch of production and enrichment. In addition, the agreement provides for compliance with environmental standards, the use of Ukrainian goods and labour, and investment in the development of local communities.”

This tender is more than a mining project it is a long-term investment in Ukraine’s economic resilience, technological advancement, and sustainable development, with a strong emphasis on international cooperation.
