Gas explosion
BBC has informed about the gas explosion at a coal mine in South Khorasan that has claimed the lives of at least 51 people, with more than 20 others injured. The explosion occurred on Saturday evening in the Tabas region, caused by a methane gas leak in two blocks of the mine.
Rescue action continues
Javad Ghenaatzadeh the governor of South Khorasan has expressed: “There was an explosion and unfortunately 69 people were working in the B and C blocks of Madanjoo mine. In block C there were 22 people and in block B there were 47 people.” The rescue operations continue, the total number of missing and trapped individuals remains unclear. According to Irna News Agency the number of dead workers increased to 51 and the number of injured increased to 20.
Iranian authorities are working to provide aid to the injured and continue search efforts despite the challenges posed by gas accumulation in the mine. Local officials have vowed to investigate the causes and any potential negligence involved.
Condolences
This accident is a reminder of the danger and hazards that are facing mine workers. In the past, there were victims of similar accidents. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed his condolences and assured that all efforts will be made to support the families affected.
